Sumter County housing skews old. The median home in the county was built around 1987, and streets near downtown go back much further. Sweetgum and oak fill the low ground near the creeks and bays. Pine pulls out fast. Hardwood with a wide root plate takes longer and leaves a bigger hole to fill. Either way the stumps have to go. Stump removal here means digging the root ball out with the excavator. Fields that have sat a couple of seasons are a different job. Those get brush hogging, which cuts the growth down without touching the dirt underneath.
