Track skid steer work with our crew

We offer skid steer services in Florence, SC, for the dirt and gravel jobs around a home or lot. Our skid steer is a compact track loader, which means it is a skid steer that runs on rubber tracks. We run it ourselves, so the machine comes with our crew, and we never rent it out. Every quote is free, and we give it on site once we have seen the ground and the work.

Plenty of people call this bobcat work, and it covers the small dirt jobs a yard or lot needs. The skid steer works alongside our mini excavator and tractor, and our dump trailer carries brush, debris and dirt away. Most of our work is residential, on yards, home sites, mobile home lots and rural acreage outside town. We take skid steer work across the Pee Dee, from Florence out to Hartsville, Timmonsville and Lamar.

What can a skid steer do on your property?

Our skid steer does most of the spreading and finish grading, the passes that leave the ground smooth and even. It moves dirt from the high side of a lot to the low side during grading and site prep. It also shapes fill into flat, raised dirt pads for houses, mobile homes, sheds and shops. On gravel driveways it spreads and shapes the stone, and our guide covers choosing the right driveway stone.

A brush cutter attachment lets it cut brush and saplings, the kind of growth our brush hogging service knocks down. The bucket loads brush, debris and loose dirt into our dump trailer, so it all leaves the property. When demolition, tree work or a stump dig-out wraps up, the skid steer levels the ground and cleans up. The digging, the stumps and the heavier dirt go to our mini excavator, the machine behind our excavation work.

Why use a track loader instead of a wheeled skid steer?

Rubber tracks spread the machine's weight over two long strips of ground instead of four small tire patches. CASE, an equipment maker, names lower ground pressure as the main advantage of a machine on tracks. It says the tracks put more contact on the ground than four separate tires can. Less pressure on each spot helps on soft sand and wet ground, and it marks a yard less than tires.

Caterpillar's brochure for its own 275 track loader shows the math behind that point. That machine spreads 12,401 pounds over 2,496 square inches of track, which works out to 5.0 pounds per square inch. Tires still have their place, and CASE says wheeled skid steers grip and turn better on pavement and travel faster. Most of our jobs are on yards, lots and uneven ground, which suits a machine on tracks.

How is skid steer work priced?

Skid steer work has no flat rate with us, so each job gets its own free quote on site. The size of the job moves the price, and so does how far the dirt or stone has to go. Access matters too, like a narrow gate, a tight path between trees or a soft spot on the way in. When fill dirt or gravel has to come in, the material and the hauling add to the price.

HomeGuide's excavation cost guide lists $100 to $300 per hour for a hired operator who brings a skid steer loader. That range covers both the machine and the person running it on the job. It is a national figure, and our own quote comes from looking at your ground and the work. Tell us what needs to move and where it should end up, and we will price that exact job.

What should you have ready before the skid steer arrives?

Before any digging, a locate request has to go to SC811 at least three business days ahead. The filing day does not count toward those three, and neither do weekends or holidays. Clear a way in for the machine, and leave room to park the trailer close to the work area. Decide where the dirt or gravel should end up, and mark anything the machine should stay off.

The state agency SCDES counts clearing, grading and filling of low areas as land disturbance. On a bigger dirt job, state stormwater permit coverage applies once the work disturbs one acre or more. Florence County has its own land disturbance form for sites under one acre, and it carries no application fee. When you know what you need done, ask for a free quote on site.

Do you rent out your skid steer?
No. The skid steer is never rented out, and it comes with our crew on every job we take. You hire the work, and we bring the machine and run it for you. We also bring the dump trailer when brush, debris or dirt has to leave the property.
What is the difference between a skid steer and a compact track loader?
They are the same family of machine, and the difference is what they roll on. A traditional skid steer runs on four tires. A compact track loader runs on rubber tracks, and plenty of people call it a track skid steer. Ours runs on tracks, which helps on soft or wet ground.
Will the tracks tear up my yard?
Rubber tracks mark a yard less than tires, because they spread the machine's weight over more ground. Turning on wet grass can still scuff the turf, and light track prints may show for a while. If part of your yard is soft or newly planted, show us when we come out to look.
Can a skid steer clear brush and small trees?
Yes, it clears brush and saplings with its brush cutter attachment. That covers overgrown edges and young trees with thin trunks. Bigger trees come down with our mini excavator, or we cut them in sections with a saw during tree removal. The skid steer then loads the brush and levels the ground.
Do you bring the gravel or dirt for a skid steer job?
Yes, when the job needs it. Small amounts come in on our dump trailer, and for bigger jobs we line up truck loads. The material comes as part of the work we do, and we do not sell dirt or stone by itself. We figure out how much you need when we look at the job.
How much does skid steer work cost?
It depends on the job, so we give a free quote on site. HomeGuide lists $100 to $300 per hour nationally for a hired operator with a skid steer loader. Job size, access, how far material moves and any fill or gravel brought in all move the price. Our skid steer cost guide compares hiring with renting. Our own number comes after we see the work.
