Excavation in Lake City covers the dirt work on a house lot or a piece of family acreage. We cut and shape ground with a mini excavator and a track skid steer. That means pads for a house or a shop. It also means mobile home pads, filling a low spot and backfilling after a structure comes out.
The ground down here is not all the same. Sandy stretches drain well, and low pockets near Lake Swamp hold water for days. Both change how a pad has to be built. You can see the full scope on the dirt work we handle. If you have more than dirt to move, look at the rest of our Lake City services. We measure on site, and the estimate is free.

Our excavation work stays above the pipe. That covers pads, driveway base, yard grading, backfill and hauling dirt in or out. We cut the high side down, move the material where it is needed and pack it as we go. A mini excavator does the digging and a track skid steer moves and spreads. The dump trailer handles anything that has to leave the property. Because the machines are compact, we can work inside a fenced yard with the fence still up. On acreage the same setup works along field roads and back corners. Small equipment also means less repair work on the lawn afterward.
Compaction is the part people notice later. Loose fill looks fine on day one and sinks over the first wet season. We build up in layers and pack each one before the next goes on. On a pad the top gets rolled flat and checked for fall, so water runs off. Around here that matters more in the low ground toward Lake Swamp. Where a lot sits dead flat, we shape a slight crown to move water out to the edges. Cut and fill get balanced on the same lot when the dirt allows it. That keeps hauling off the bill. If a drive comes next, that leads into gravel driveways.
Manufactured homes are a real part of the housing around Lake City. Census figures put mobile homes near six percent of local housing units. Families set them on land they already own, out past the town limits. A pad for one has to be level, packed and sitting above the dirt around it. We cut it in, build it up where the ground falls away and roll it flat. Blocking and tie downs land on solid ground that way. We shape the ground so water sheds off the pad edge. A pad built an inch or two proud of the yard stays dry through a wet spring.
Shop and barn pads run the same way at a bigger footprint. You tell us the slab size and we cut the pad wider than the building line. That apron gives a concrete crew room to set forms. We stake the height off the driveway or the house, so the finish sits where you want it. Where an old structure is on the spot, we take the old building down first and clear the footprint. Then the pad goes in over clean ground, packed and ready for forms. Topsoil gets stripped and stockpiled at the start, so you can spread it back around the building later.
Lake City sits at about 75 feet of elevation in southern Florence County. Lake Swamp carries water off the north end of town and heads east toward the Lynches River. Ground near those drains stays soft after a wet stretch. Sandy ground shows up close by and behaves the other way. It drains fast, and a steep cut in it will slough. We read the dirt before we set a grade. On sand we lay the slopes back flatter so the edges hold. On the low ground we build the pad up and give water somewhere to go.
Access decides the schedule as much as the digging does. US-52 runs right through town, and US-378 crosses it about a mile and a half north of the center. That makes most of the 29560 area an easy trailer pull for us. Getting from the road to the work is the harder part on some lots. A narrow gate or a soft yard sets the route we take. Our machines are sized for that. A mini excavator and a track skid steer get through openings a big machine has to give up on. We check the route during the estimate, so the start day runs clean.
From the first walk of the property to the last pass of the grade, here is exactly how it goes.
We come see the actual job first: the structure, the brush, the ground under it, and how equipment gets in. Demo and land work price off what is really out there.
You get a free, no-obligation quote with a real number and a real plan: what comes down or gets cleared, where the debris goes, and when. It holds unless the scope changes.
The equipment shows up when we said and the job runs the way we quoted it: teardown, clearing, digging, grading. If something unexpected turns up, you hear about it right away, not on the bill.
When the work is done we go over the property together. Debris hauled the way we agreed, grades draining the right way, the site left clean. Done means you say it is done.
