Excavation is dirt work, and most of it around Florence comes down to how a lot sits. The ground here is sandy on top with clay underneath. Rain soaks in fast, then stalls when it hits that clay layer. Florence sits on flat coastal plain and gets around 46 inches of rain a year. Water pools in the low spots and sits there for days. We dig with a mini excavator and move dirt with a track skid steer. A dump trailer hauls off what has to leave the property. Sandy ground digs easy. The clay under it holds water and makes for heavier dirt.
Most residential excavation here stays shallow. The work is digging out what is in the way, then moving dirt to where it belongs. We pull roots and old buried debris out of yards. We cut building pads flat so a shed or a mobile home sits level. We dig out washouts after a storm and reshape ground that holds water. The same mini excavator that digs a pad also cleans up the hole after a house teardown. We work homes and rural acreage across the Pee Dee, and estimates are free. A price comes after we see the ground and the way in.

Homeowners call us when something in the ground has to come out. Tree roots run under a yard and lift the grass. A stump left from an old tree keeps sprouting. Old brick and buried trash turn up when someone starts a project. We dig those out with the mini excavator and load them into the dump trailer. Root balls come out in one piece when we can get the bucket under them. We backfill the hole with clean dirt and pack it down. If you want the stump gone and nothing else, that is stump removal work.
The other half of the work is dirt itself. We cut dirt down where a lot sits too high and fill where it sits too low. A gravel drive needs a base dug out before rock goes down. A shed or a mobile home needs a flat, packed pad under it. A camper needs a level spot cut into a slope. We move that dirt with the track skid steer and the tractor. Dirt that has to leave goes out in the dump trailer. Once the shape is right, pad and site prep takes it to finish grade.
A flat lot with clay under it holds water. After a hard rain, the yard stays soft for days. Ruts hold water and grass thins out. Mud tracks into the house. Most of the time the fix is moving dirt. We look at where water comes in and where it wants to go. Then we cut the high side down and build the low side up. A gentle fall away from the house moves water off on its own. This is surface work that changes how water runs across the yard. Washed out spots get dug back out and packed before we set the final shape.
Storms are the other reason people call. A hard Pee Dee thunderstorm can cut a channel across a drive in one afternoon. Water runs off a roof and digs a trench along the side of the house. A ditch fills with sand and stops moving water. We dig those back out with the mini excavator and haul the loose sand off. Then we rebuild the shape so the next rain runs the same way. Debris that a storm buried comes out at the same time. We cover Florence and the towns across the Pee Dee out to about 30 miles.
It starts with a look at the property. We check the slope and the way in for equipment. A mini excavator and a dump trailer need an opening wide enough to pass. Soft ground after rain can push a job back a few days. You get a price for the work before anything starts, and the estimate is free. Once you say go, we file the locate request with SC811. Digging starts after the utilities mark their lines. Small yard digs finish in a day, and bigger dirt work runs longer. We clean up the site and haul the extra dirt off.
Dirt has to go somewhere. On acreage we often spread it in a low spot on the same property, which saves a haul. On a small lot there is usually nowhere to put it, so it rides out in the dump trailer. Roots and old debris get hauled off the same way. Hauling is the part most people do not think about, and it moves the price. Dirt swells when you dig it, so a hole that looks small fills more trailer loads than you expect. We tell you up front whether the dirt stays or goes.
From the first walk of the property to the last pass of the grade, here is exactly how it goes.
We come see the actual job first: the structure, the brush, the ground under it, and how equipment gets in. Demo and land work price off what is really out there.
You get a free, no-obligation quote with a real number and a real plan: what comes down or gets cleared, where the debris goes, and when. It holds unless the scope changes.
The equipment shows up when we said and the job runs the way we quoted it: teardown, clearing, digging, grading. If something unexpected turns up, you hear about it right away, not on the bill.
When the work is done we go over the property together. Debris hauled the way we agreed, grades draining the right way, the site left clean. Done means you say it is done.
