Hunter Houses handles land clearing in Florence, SC and the small towns around it. Maybe you bought a lot that grew up thick in brush and briars. Maybe family land sat idle for a few years and filled in on its own. Loblolly pine and sweetgum seed into open ground here without any help. Wax myrtle and greenbrier come up under them and knit the whole thing together. We bring a mini excavator and a track skid steer and take that growth out. What you get back is open ground you can stand on and use.
Most of our land clearing work is residential and rural. We clear home sites on family land, hunting land, small pasture, and lots waiting on a manufactured home. We push the small trees out and move the brush into piles. The piles load onto the dump trailer and leave your property. If you would rather leave the growth on site as chip, forestry mulching is the better fit. Stumps that stay in the ground after a clearing job get dug out under stump removal. Estimates are free and we do them on site.

Florence sits on the coastal plain, and the ground here is mostly sandy loam over clay. Rain falls through every season, so there is no dry stretch to slow growth down. Frost usually clears by early spring and stays gone until late fall. That gives everything green a long warm run each year. Loblolly pine picked up the nickname old field pine because it seeds into open ground on its own. Sweetgum and oak seedlings come in behind it. Two or three summers of that and a cleared lot looks thick again.
Cutting the tops off does not settle it. Wax myrtle sprouts back from its root crown and from runners under the soil. Greenbrier holds knobby rhizomes that send up new vines after the old ones are cut. A mower pass on heavy brush knocks it down, and the same growth returns. Land clearing takes the root ball out with it. We hook the excavator bucket under the stem and lift the roots free. Once the ground is open, brush hogging holds it that way with a yearly pass. That order matters on land you want to keep clear.
We start on site with you and mark what stays. Shade trees you want to keep get flagged, along with the well head and septic field. Then we work from the edge in with the track skid steer. It pushes down brush and small trees and moves the material into piles. The mini excavator follows and pulls the bigger root balls out of the ground. On sandy loam the roots lift out clean when the soil is not soaked. After heavy rain we wait a few days so the machines do not rut your ground.
Cleared material goes into piles where a truck can reach them. From there it loads onto the dump trailer and leaves the property. Some owners want the piles left on site instead, and that works too. Burning is your call to make. South Carolina asks you to notify the Forestry Commission before an outdoor burn outside city limits. Once the material is gone, we smooth the ground back down and level the ruts. If the lot needs a building pad or a slope set for water, that is grading and site prep. We can quote that alongside the clearing.
Much of our lot clearing runs ahead of a house or a manufactured home. The delivery crew needs open ground and room to back the home in. We clear the building spot plus the working space around it. Tell us where the home is going and we clear to that footprint. The driveway path gets opened at the same time so nothing gets stuck. Clearing that disturbs an acre or more falls under South Carolina's construction stormwater permit. Florence County reviews the land disturbing permit side of it. That paperwork is the owner's call, and we work to whatever the county sets.
On hunting land the job is usually lanes and small openings. We open a shooting lane or a road back to a stand. Food plot ground gets cleared and leveled so it is ready to plant. Underbrush clearing under a pine stand opens sight lines and leaves the timber standing. Pasture work is the same idea on a bigger scale. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and storms leave leaning trees and downed limbs. We pull that out of a field or off a fence line. Acreage clearing gets priced off what is actually standing on the ground.
From the first walk of the property to the last pass of the grade, here is exactly how it goes.
We come see the actual job first: the structure, the brush, the ground under it, and how equipment gets in. Demo and land work price off what is really out there.
You get a free, no-obligation quote with a real number and a real plan: what comes down or gets cleared, where the debris goes, and when. It holds unless the scope changes.
The equipment shows up when we said and the job runs the way we quoted it: teardown, clearing, digging, grading. If something unexpected turns up, you hear about it right away, not on the bill.
When the work is done we go over the property together. Debris hauled the way we agreed, grades draining the right way, the site left clean. Done means you say it is done.
